Club de Golf La Cañada
Forming part of the exclusive Sotogrande Residential & Leisure Resort and just 30 minutes drive from Gibraltar, the fantastic Club de Golf La Cañada welcomes both members and visitors to enjoy its extensive facilities. The brainchild of World War II veteran and entrepreneur Joseph McMicking, Sotogrande began life in the early 1960's with the view to it becoming a residential resort and leisure playground for the world's rich and famous. Since then Sotogrande has seen constant development to the extent it is now regarded as one of the largest and most exclusive resorts in Europe boasting hundreds of homes and a mind boggling choice of leisure activities.
Club de Golf La Cañada
The Course – With a length of 5,841 metres from the white tees and a par of 71, the course at Club de Golf La Cañada is quite unique in the sense nine of its holes were designed by Robert Trent Jones and the other nine designed by Dave Thomas. The course is a pleasure to play for golfers of all experience levels with medium length fairways, fast greens and a variety of water hazards and ravines, as well as spectacular views over the Mediterranean sea. Another feature of the course is its fantastic drainage system that allows play even in adverse weather when other courses in the area are temporarily closed.
Practice Area – Golfers visiting Club de Golf La Cañada looking to get in a bit of practice before teeing off have the use of a 250 metre long driving range with a platform of 5,000 square metres. There is also an approach area and putting greens. The course and practice areas are open all year round and play is from 08:00 – 21:00 in summer and 08:00 – 19:00 in winter.
Club House – Opened in 2000, the beautiful club house is of typical Andalusian architecture boasting wonderful terracotta shades and tiles and covers an area of 1,000 square metres. There is parking for up to 150 vehicles, extensive terraces and a charming central courtyard ideal for functions, special occasions, exhibits and corporate events. The elegant members lounge is also equipped with media installations for indoor events. Further facilities include offices, board room, well equipped and clean changing rooms and the Caddie Master Pro Shop where visitors will find a great selection of top brand clothing, accessories and equipment.
Restaurant & Cafe Bar – The recently renovated La Cañada Restaurant has a capacity for 120 diners and a large outdoor terrace with views over the sea and the Rio Guardiaro River. The well selected a la carte menu offers delights such as Chateaubriand tenderloin fillet of beef, roast lamb, a variety of other meats and superb fish dishes such as line caught tuna either grilled or served Tartar. The café opens at 07:30 for players wishing to fuel up on a delicious breakfast before teeing off. It offers a range of teas and coffee, local and imported drinks and wine, and a lovely snack menu which can be enjoyed indoors or on the terrace with views to the famous Rock of Gibraltar. Summer reservations can be made for special barbecue dinners.
