Eastern Beach

Located close to Gibraltar Airport's runway and backed by colourful houses, Eastern Beach is the largest and most popular beach in Gibraltar due to it receiving sunshine throughout most of the day. Something first time visitors don't usually take into account is the fact that Gibraltar's most famous attraction, the Rock can actually be an encumbrance for those who are staying on the west side and enjoy spending time sunning themselves on the beach, as it only gets sunshine for less than half the day at certain times of the year.

For visitors staying in the central district and around Ocean Village Marina, getting to Eastern Beach is easily done on foot or by bike, and if taking a car bear in mind the available parking spaces fill up quickly during the peak summer months. A handy aspect of Eastern Beach is its close proximity to the airport, so if you've checked out of your hotel and have a long wait for your flight you can check your bags into the left luggage facility at the main information desk and spend some time on the beach while you wait for your departure time.

Eastern Beach Facilities

Throughout the year there are a couple of nearby bars for drinks and snacks, and during the summer months further bars set up and there are beach facilities and wheelchair access. The beach is quite scenic, with the majestic north face of the Rock just metres away and in the other direction bathers can watch the spectacle of the planes coming in to land overhead. If you continue a couple of kilometres south from Eastern Beach you come to Catalan Bay which has further bathing facilities, bars, restaurants and the facilities of the lovely Caleta Hotel which include a health club & spa and the Rosette award winning Nunos Italian Restaurant.

Tarifa

Regarded as one of the world's most popular destinations for wind and kite surfing and around 50 minutes drive from Gibraltar, the small town of Tarifa is a superb place to visit on a day out.
