During the day Gibraltar's Main Street and Grand Casemates Square enjoy a bustling lively atmosphere, but when the sun sets over the Rock, Gibraltar nightlife swings into action. With its small size and central commercial district conveniently located close to the main hotels and holiday apartments, Gibraltar is easy to get around without the need for a car or the expense of hiring a taxi, making it a pleasure for visitors to enjoy the vibrant Gibraltar nightlife.
Although Main Street stays lively well into the night with many cafes, bars and shops remaining open until late, the nightlife scene tends to move one street over into the popular Irish Town which has a great buzz and plenty of opportunities to enjoy the ‘craic'. At the end, or beginning of Main Street, depending on which way you look at it is Grand Casemates Square which is great for a bit of a bar crawl, especially if you can drink your way around the square back to where you started and still remain standing 🙂
From the Square and Irish Town it's just a short walk to Gibraltar's other popular nightspot, the fantastic Ocean Village Marina and promenade that is lined with lively entertainment venues, cafes, restaurants and two casinos, one located on the stunning superyacht hotel, Sunborn. A bit of a longer walk or short taxi journey will take nighttime revellers to the harbour area and popular Queensway Quay where there is a further choice of entertainment venues, although not as raucous and a great choice for a more relaxed evening out.
Visitors looking to rave every night should bear in mind, Gibraltar is nothing like Ibiza or Benidorm where the choice of nightclubs is huge, but more a place where revellers enjoy their evenings in the sports bars and live music venues before heading to one of two nightclubs.
Latinos Music Bar – Located in the old arched defensive walls on Grand Casemates Square, this venue is really more well known for its great food and extensive menu, although it is a fun place to stop for a drink while out on the town.
The Lord Nelson – Also found in the Square, this is your typical British boozer that gets really busy when they feature their great live music nights. Decorated to resemble a ship's deck, The Lord Nelson should be included on any bar hop around the Square.
All's Well – Continuing a tour of the Square, this place is an institute in Gibraltar with a faithful following of visitors returning each year to enjoy a few pints, but if you are visiting on karaoke nights make sure you keep your drinks away from the blokes precious song books!
Eclipse Lounge – Visitors to the Square looking for more pumped up Gibraltar nightlife should head for Eclipse Lounge where the dancing goes on until the early hours and the DJ's spin the latest tunes in a stylish setting with state of the art music and lighting systems. They also have a Gastro Bar for hungry revellers and feature regular theme nights and music festivals.
The Hendrix – Gibraltar nightlife continues in Ocean Village Marina where superb live music acts are featured regularly at The Hendrix that has a fantastic setting looking over the marina. Get there between 17:00 – 20:00 for happy hour drinks and the best gin cocktails.
The Arena – One of the liveliest venues in the marina is The Arena where the majority of the action takes place on the large outdoor terraces in front of Casino Admiral. They boast a huge outdoor TV, more similar to a cinema screen where all the latest sporting events are screened as well as music that gets the party in full flow.
La Sala – Located on-board the luxurious Sunborn Superyacht Hotel, La Sala is open to the public and, aside from great food in a beautiful setting, have regular live music evenings. The hotel boasts a further two bars, Sky Bar on the top deck and Aqua Bar by the pool where they feature superb DJ sets on a Friday night.
Dusk – Gibraltar nightlife doesn't get much more hip, cool and trendy than Dusk which is a proper nightclub in all senses of the word. Located on the tip of the mini island in Ocean Village Marina, Dusk features the latest lighting and audio systems, fantastic resident and guest DJ's, large dance floor, 3 bars, VIP areas and extensive outdoor terraces. Here revellers can catch their breath and enjoy the cool sea breeze in an assortment of comfortable seating areas with inviting sofas, cushions and even huge Arabian style canopy beds!
Visitors to Gibraltar unfortunate enough to find any of the above mentioned venues no longer open, please don't shoot the messenger! As is the case with the majority of Spain's popular holiday spots, Gibraltar nightlife venues can and do open and close their doors on a regular basis due to a number of unforeseen circumstances.
