The vibrant heart of Gibraltar is centred around its lively Main Street where visitors will find a superb range of entertainment options to suit all age groups. The east side of the Rock offers the least entertainment venues, although it is a good choice for visitors who wish to get away from the hustle and bustle for a while and maybe spend the day at Catalan Bay enjoying a quiet picnic on the beach. Alternately, refreshments and food can be found at the Seawave Bar, La Terraza or Michelangelo's that back the bay or in the Caleta Hotel that boasts fine dining in the AA Rosette Award winning Nunos Italian Restaurant.
The Rock – Although the Rock of Gibraltar offers fantastic attractions and the choice of getting there by foot or cable car, for those that are looking for entertainment venues there is only the Top Of The Rock Cafe which despite having breathtaking views, is not really worth the long uphill walk or cable car fare if you are just after a drink or meal.
Main Street – Partly pedestrianised and lined with many shops, cafes, bars and restaurants, Gibraltar's Main Street is a pleasure to explore with smaller streets branching off in all directions. This is the main shopping area where visitors will find a number of duty free shops and well known UK stores like Top Shop and Monsoon. It's also a great place to shop for local arts & crafts, jewellery and boutique style clothing and accessories. Whether hungry or thirsty there is no shortage of bars and restaurants as well as bakeries and ice cream parlours.
Irish Town – More of a nighttime entertainment area, Irish Town is actually a road that runs parallel to Main Street connected by a number of smaller lanes where visitors will find some great little hidden gems. Although it has its fair share of Irish themed bars, there is also a selection of British pubs, cafes and tapas bars.
Grand Casemates Square – Regarded as the gateway to Gibraltar's city centre and located at the northern end of Main Street, Grand Casemates Square was originally built in 1817 as a military barracks but now serves a lot less strict and formal role as one of the Rock's most famous areas to party the night away. Lined with cafes, bars and restaurants, it is often the chosen area for stag & hen parties out on a pub crawl before heading to a local club. During the day the Square is the perfect place to sit back with a drink and watch the crowds go by, and for visitors with children there are ice cream parlours and popular takeaways such as Burger King and Pizza Hut.
Marina & Harbour Districts
Ocean Village Marina – Most visitors enjoying a night on the town will eventually end up at this fantastic entertainment area where the marina and sea views can be enjoyed from many of the cafes, bars and restaurants centred around Marina Square Promenade. Docked in the marina is the fabulous five star Sunborn Superyacht Hotel that offers fine wining & dining in several bars and restaurants, as well as a chance to try your luck in the on-board casino. There is a further casino on the little island jutting into the marina that boasts one of Gibraltar's liveliest sports bars, The Arena that has a huge outdoor terrace complete with giant TV screen. Ocean Village is also home to several takeaways and Gibraltar's largest nightclub, Dusk.
King's Bastion Leisure Centre – Not forgetting the young ones, King's Bastion is located near the harbour area between Line Wall and Queensway Roads and offers great entertainment for both adults and children. Visitors can enjoy a few games of 10 pin bowling at King's Bowl, watch the latest movies on the big screen in the centre's movie theatre, glide around the ice rink or enjoy the thrills of the amusement arcade where there are over 60 arcade games, pin ball machines, air hockey and simulators. The centre also boasts a gymnasium, wine bar & lounge for the adults, and a youth bar & disco for teens.
Queensway Quay – A lengthy walk or short taxi journey from the central district takes visitors to this quieter and more relaxed entertainment area of Gibraltar. This is the perfect place for the more discerning visitor to enjoy an evening in a selection of bars and restaurants while sitting on the terrace taking in the sea breeze and harbour views.
