Golf Courses

Although Gibraltar delights visitors with a number of superb attractions and activities to enjoy during a holiday, it's a little too small to accommodate leisure facilities such as golf courses and horse riding schools. Indeed, the Rock itself is not much bigger than your average 18 hole golf course, so visitors who fancy a round or two will need to head across the border to the magnificent courses of nearby San Roque and Sotogrande. With thousands of people crossing Gibraltar's border each day, either as visitors or residents of La LĂnea de la ConcepciĂłn who work on the Rock, passport control is a mere formality, making it easy for holidaymakers to explore further afield and enjoy the beaches, golf courses and entertainment venues of Spain.

Alcaidesa Links Golf Resort – Enjoying a picture perfect countryside setting with spectacular views to the Rock, Alcaidesa boasts two 18 hole par 72 courses, one of which is the only ‘links' course in southern Europe. The excellent facilities include a stylish club house, driving range, practice facilities and a golf academy. Also forming part of the resort is the lovely four star Alcaidesa Hotel that offers comfortable guest rooms, bars and restaurants and a spa centre.

San Roque Golf Club – About the same distance as Alcaidesa but further inland, San Roque also features two 18 hole par 72 golf courses and one of the most luxurious club houses in Europe. The sprawling club house boasts extensive facilities, heated swimming pool and a wellness area, as well as one of the most popular restaurants in the area, Kamakura.

Real Club de Golf Sotogrande – This splendid 18 hole par 72 course is one of two golf courses that make up just a small portion of the exclusive Sotogrande Residential & Leisure Estate that really needs to be seen to be believed, and entertains some of Europe's most rich and famous. With its own large harbour, a luxurious marina reminiscent of Venice's canals, several hotels, yacht clubs, polo clubs and many more fantastic leisure facilities, Sotogrande is more similar to an upmarket village than an estate, and its golf courses are a pleasure to play.

Club de Golf La Cañada – At just 30 minutes drive from Gibraltar, this is the furthest of the golf courses and forms part of the Sotogrande Estate, slightly inland from the marina. An 18 hole course with a par of 71, La Cañada also offers a large driving range, approach area and putting greens, and its stunning Andalusian style club house covers an area of 1,000 square metres and features a Pro Shop, bars, restaurants and extensive function facilities.
