Alcaidesa Links Golf Resort
Located in one of the most beautiful golf course settings in Europe and boasting spectacular views to the Rock of Gibraltar, Alcaidesa Links Golf Resort offers fantastic facilities and a great choice of nearby accommodation options. It is the only ‘Links' golf course in southern Europe which are the oldest style of course first developed in Britain. Links comes from the old English word hlinc meaning rising ground and referring to coastal areas, often featuring sand dunes and most commonly found in Scotland. Alcaidesa Links Golf Resort features two 18 hole courses, extensive practice facilities, magnificent club house, pro shop and a golf academy.
Alcaidesa Links Course – Located on the shores of a magnificent golden sand bay, this course has a length of 5,866 metres and par 72. It was inaugurated in 1992 and its topography is characterised by a series of gentle slopes descending down to the beach where players are rewarded with wonderful views of Gibraltar and the north African coastline. With its coastal location the main difficulty of the course is the unpredictable wind conditions.
Alcaidesa Heathland Course – Designed by the former Ryder Cup player Dave Thomas, this is a longer course at 6,373 metres with a par of 72. The course has wide fairways and is the more challenging of the two, with varied natural scenery including a valley area with several water hazards coming into play and a large plateau similar to heathland where the wind factor needs to be considered.
Alcaidesa Club House – Home to the famous 19th hole, the stylish club house sits at the highest point of the resort with commanding views over both courses and out to sea. Built over 3,000 square metres, the club house offers clean well equipped changing rooms and a large modern Pro Shop stocking the latest designer brand clothing, accessories and equipment. There are multi-purpose meeting rooms and spacious terraces perfect for weddings, banquets, parties and corporate events. Last but not least, the club house restaurant employs top class chefs who create mouthwatering local and international dishes to suit the most discerning palate.
Practice Facilities – The superb practice facilities at Alcaidesa Links Golf Resort include an impressive driving range of 300 metres with 72 driving bays, half of them under cover. The views from the upper level of the range take in the glistening Mediterranean and golfers can also improve their game on 2 approach zones, bunkers and an 18 hole putting green.
Golf Academy – The academy uses the golf course practice facilities as part of their training and offer individual lessons and group courses for players of all levels and in a variety of languages. Keen golfers can also attend corporate courses, demonstrations and golf clinics as well as individual tuition in order to obtain the Federation Licence. Training programmes for younger players take place every Saturday from September to June and involve tutoring in physical, technical and theoretical aspects of the game.
Golf Campus – Summer golf campus at Alcaidesa Links Golf Resort takes place during July and August in one week programmes. Activities take place from 09:30 – 12:30 Monday to Friday where youngsters of different nationalities will learn the basics of the game while acquiring guidelines for sportsmanship, and at the same time living a healthy Mediterranean lifestyle.
