Scuba Diving Courses

Of the many fantastic activities available during a visit to Gibraltar, diving and snorkelling are extremely popular, and for those who wish to get below the waves and explore the beautiful underwater world around the Rock, there are a selection of scuba diving courses available. Throughout its history Gibraltar has seen many turbulent times and been fought over by a number of different nations; testament to this is evident in the 30 plus shipwrecks that lay at the bottom of the sea. These provide haven for a diverse assortment of marine flora & fauna where divers are treated to a kaleidoscope of brilliantly coloured coral, plants and fish.

Gibraltar is home to a number of dive shops and schools where, depending on time constraints visitors can choose from a selection of scuba diving courses. Located in Admirals Walk just off Marina Bay Square, Dive Charters Gibraltar is the only 5* dive centre on the Rock and also the largest dive operator, with fully qualified instructors and the latest in diving equipment. Their reasonably priced selection of scuba diving courses are designed for all to enjoy, from complete novices to experienced divers who wish to get further certifications under their belt. As fun and exciting as scuba diving is, some first time divers find it is just not for them so when looking at scuba diving courses, it's always advisable to go for an introduction course such as Try Dive.

Scuba Diving Courses

Try Dive – Suitable for complete novices and most age groups, Try Dive is an ideal introduction to scuba diving and by far the cheapest way to get below the waves and see for yourself if diving is something you would be keen to take up as a hobby or even as a profession. Together with a qualified Dive Charters instructor you are transported from the marina to the charming Rosia Bay to begin your adventure. After a safety briefing and dive equipment instructions you will get kitted up, and once everyone is comfortable it's time to explore the underwater world.

PADI Open Water Course – This is the certification most divers wish to achieve first, and indeed it is the minimum worldwide qualification necessary to dive without an instructor. This course can be completed in as little as 4 days and involves a combination of theory study and exams, confined water diving and open water diving. The majority of practical training and skills will be gained in the safety of confined water which will be put into practice during the following open water training dives.

Summary

The above two scuba diving courses cover the basics of diving and the minimum qualification necessary to dive without instruction anywhere in the world, although it is highly advisable to never dive without a ‘dive buddy' as there are always risks and dangers when scuba diving. There are a number of more advanced and speciality dive courses that can be completed once you have your PADI Open Water Certificate that involve more in-depth training for both recreational diving and diving as a profession, including the ultimate course, Divemaster.
